This Android app, for 5 bucks, allows you to sync your phone with your kids’ and receive text updates on their location; kids can locate the parents too. The app will also notify parents if the kids venture outside a pre-set boundary. Don’t you just love GPS technology?

Carve it!

While we may use an app to doodle, this one gives us the ability to carve pumpkins! Kids of all ages can use their finger to carve and light up a pumpkin with this fun app. The 99 cent app is for kids ages 3 and up and their creation can also be sent to friends and family.

So whether it is holiday related or not, remember that your smartphone is your friend—and hopefully these apps can alleviate boredom by playing harmless pranks of friends, ease the pain of balancing your checkbook, save your life by telling you that you are intoxicated and don’t drive, or promote a safe and extra spooky Halloween.

This app, a PC-mag editor’s choice product, can help budget, track, and manage money on the go, and it also synchs up all your online bank accounts for easy viewing balances and transactions. It helps keep track of spending and alerts you of unusual spending behavior and upcoming due dates. We may turn to our phone to see if we can afford that new car or that new house—and the phone might be good enough to say, NO! Thank you phone, thank you for your honesty and candor.
