Facebook Gets Face lift

Super popular social networking site Facebook has redesigned the profile page for users in the hopes that more thumbnails and less cluttersome text is what users prefer.

One new change is the new profile format’s “Info” section which now contains thumbnail images and icons representing the occupational, educational and other affiliations listed there.

Another change is in the photo browsing. Before, you had to click to get to the second or third page to view more photos and now, you can keep scrolling down to have additional photos appear instead of having to go through other pages. This is especially helpful if you lose internet briefly, since you don’t have to keep accessing new pages. Searching is likely easier since you can now be searched by such criteria as hometown and interests. Those that go to Facebook after reading this will notice that nothing has changed—unless you want it to change. For the changes to happen, as of now, you have to opt into it at facebook.com/about/profile.

As with any change to a popular site, some have decided they prefer the old format and choose not to opt in to the new design. How will the new design affect users? Some will add more information to their profile as a result of the cleaner orientation of biographical info. Others may choose to take out information now that their bio info is more visible.

Either way, it should generate some buzz for Facebook on the news shows and at the office, not that it needs any more PR these days.
