Paranormal Activity
Local Haunts, Legends and Stories of Paranormal Activity
Looking for paranormal activity this Halloween? And no I do not mean Paranormal Activity in the movie theatres; I am talking the real thing. Ghosts, hauntings, terrifying legends and more, you know the kind of paranormal activity that cannot be explained, re-enacted or fabricated with flour and a decent HD camera.
Places in LA, NYC, and other cities in America are known for their paranormal activity and strange legends. Think about it, with the internet these days you even have your own paranormal travel guide. Check out your town and see what it has to offer, for me personally I know I have not only some great spots on Long Island but also can take a drive to upstate New York to satisfy my hunger for hauntings.
When I was a senior in high school my interest for paranormal activity escalated as I began to realize there really are things in life that we cannot explain. If you have ever had a psychic reading or medium experience than you know exactly what I am saying, however if you are a non-believer, stop reading and leave my page.
Sorry when it comes to the paranormal activity thing I believe, if you don’t great, but why are you reading? Going through Haunted-Places.com a few specific places grabbed my attention, just with their name alone.
Portland, Oregon
Paranormal activity in Oregon has been known to take place at the White Eagle Café’ and Saloon. Owned by McMenamins, the White Eagle does not try to hide the past, instead they tell about it in detail. Frequent brawls earned the White Eagle the title of ‘Bucket of Blood’ along the trolley line that ran up Mississippi Avenue. Conductors deemed the White Eagle the Bucket of Blood because of the violent battles that would erupt between passengers in and around the saloon.
Also apart of the paranormal activity at the White Eagle are the stories of two spirits, a prostitute who was murdered in the upper section by a jealous lover and a waitress. While the prostitute story is violent, the waitress was actually said to be attacked by an unseen force, which sent her down the basement steps.
Where else does paranormal activity take place in the White Eagle? Well the basement of course. Men were actually shanghaied (forced to become sailors) via the underground tunnel system in the basement. From the Native American pattern laid out in tile to the legends engrained into the bar, the White Eagle is known for the paranormal activity within its walls.
Manhattan, New York (Travel Channel)
SoHo, the neighborhood in lower Manhattan is known for the models and trendy art shops. However did you know that Spring Street also retains a wide majority of spirits? The Manhattan Bistro is known for their excellent food, salmon specifically. As the oldest building on Spring Street, one has to wonder, what was the Manhattan Bistro was before it became a trendy restaurant? Well it was a brothel. Reports of paranormal activity at the Manhattan Bistro include waitstaff reporting water turning on when no one was anywhere near the sink. One waiter even said that a glass came off the shelf and exploded against the wall sending pieces of glass into his finger. On the top floor of the Bistro there is nothing, why? Because an artist was said to hang himself in the 1920’s, leaving the attic a terrifying and heavy area that none want to go into.
What about a crumbling brick well in the basement of the Manhattan Bistro? That’s right, the murder mystery of a woman who is still searching for her happily ever after. Built in the 1790’s the Manhattan well was supposed to supply fresh water for the entire city. Levi Weeks was a carpenter that was amongst the early settlers of NYC, also within the area there was Elma Sands, a young woman who struck the attention of Weeks. Months went by in their affair until eventually what was supposed to be a trip upstate turned into a deadly dump into the Manhattan well. Whether she was pregnant or not has never been confirmed; however her murder was. 3 boys were playing by the well when the body of Elma Sands rose to the top of the well. Immediately fingers were pointed towards Levi Weeks, as he was the last one to be seen with her the night she was murdered. In what should have been an easy decision for the judge, the defense painted a picture of Elma Sands that would leave her crying in the after life.
Gold Camp Road, Colorado
Living in Greeley, Colorado there were tales of paranormal activity in the tunnels around Gold Camp Road in Colorado Springs. I first heard the story from my roommate at the time who had gone up there with friends. Supposedly if you place flour on your back bumper, park it in the tunnel, turn off your lights and wait you will here children screaming. From here if you get out of the car you will see small handprints, of which the locals claim are the hands of the children trying to push you out of the tunnel so you will not share in their fate.
The thing about areas known for their paranormal activity is that people frequent them at strange hours. Do not just go to these places alone. Bring friends. We did it in Long Island when I was a senior in high school. We braved Satan’s Trails and went against the dark magic in the old hotel that looked over the sound in Mount Sinai, NY. The chandler estate was huge, and I went back there with five guys and two other girls. Myself and three others went into the actual building. It was run down, vacant and dark, now I realize we are really lucky we did not run into any bums, go through any floor boards or get caught by the cops. But hey we all love the paranormal activity right? Especially around Halloween weekend, the paranormal activity is rumored to be quite the thing!
