President Obama Fires Back at Donald Trump

President Barack Obama can joke as he showed off his silly side at the White House Correspondents dinner last night.  Even more amusing was Donald Trump sitting there stone cold and unexpecting of the roast, of which he would later attribute to the high numbers he is accumulating in favor of him running for president.  Although Seth Meyer asked if Trump would be running as a joke, because that seems to be all he is now-a-days.

You see Donald Trump, President Obama has better things to do with his presidency, time and life, than to bend over backwards and do whatever you ask of him.  Undoubtedly humiliated, ABC News wrote that Trump had told people before the dinner that he did not expect the president to even mention him or the birth certificate incident.  However the Huffington Post has a different story as they say that Donald Trump had an idea of what he was getting himself into, however he had no idea he would be the sole focus of the jokes.

Back when the birther movement first started with Barack Obama and his birth certificate, comedians like Stephen Colbert and John Stewart took full privilege of using it in their television shows.  John Stewart said it best however when he said the only thing the President could do was to show a video of him coming out of his mother’s you know what.  Ironically years later President Barack Obama decided to share his ‘birth video’ at the dinner, leading people to believe that they were about to see the unthinkable and boy would I love to have seen Trump’s face when the video revealed itself as Disney’s ‘The Lion King’.

Continuing on amid roaring cheers and a stone faced Trump, President Obama went on to publically credit Donald Trump with the rights of getting him to show his birth certificate.

“But no-one is happier, no-one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than the Donald,” Mr. Obama said. “That’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter – like did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac? –ABC News

For the last few months President Barack Obama is all that Donald Trump has talked about, however during a 20 minute roast it showed that he can dish it but he cannot take it.

“I had no idea it would be to that extent, where you know, it was just joke after joke after joke,” Trump said on Sunday morning. “It was almost like, is there anyone else they could talk about?”-Huffington Post

How does a man like Donald Trump deal after he has been publically humiliated?  Well he takes credit of course.

Trump said he was “honored” by the amount of time dedicated to him during the dinner. “I knew I was going into the lion’s den,” he said in the interview. “I’m the last person they want to run against.” (Bloomberg News)

Boasting he would run for president to Hollywood.com, Trump claimed he ‘has the decision made up in his mind’ and now all he has to do is wait for the right moment, aka when his show ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ goes off the air.

Something predictable happens to the ratings of Donald J. Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC when he hints at running for president: They rise.” (NY Times.com April 2, 2011)

He has done it before back in 1987 and also 2000. It’s worth remembering that 2012 is not the first time Trump’s nose for publicity has drawn him into the political arena.  The worst part is that his numbers are not doing bad and most of America is ready to vote in a man who knows nothing of politics, as President Barack Obama pointed out at the dinner.

“Obama praised Trump’s executive experience in a backhanded way, by referring to Trump’s TV show, “The Celebrity Apprentice.  You, Mr. Trump, recognized that the real problem was a lack of leadership,” Obama said. “And so ultimately, you didn’t blame Lil Jon or Meat Loaf. You fired Gary Busey. These are the kind of decisions that would keep me up at night. Well handled, sir.” (President Barack Obama, Washington Post.com)

I would be interested to see if Donald Trump runs for President, I mean he is boasting to major media outlets such as Bloomberg, and Hollywood.com.  But let’s be honest, ratings are money, money is Donald Trump, do you really think he has his priorities straight?  I’d love to see Donald Trump run for President and Barack Obama win.  I am sure Trump would say: Everyone hates me so if I had not of run, Barack Obama would never have gotten in to office.

Kudos to President Obama. It is gratifying to see him stand up and dish out a few punches for a change. I was not surprise at the level of bigotry that still exsisted when he was elected President. What did surprise me was that he was elected President despite the level of bigotry in this country. Now, in the matter of Donald Trump, it scares me to think that some americans “seriously” consider Trump a contender for President. But then again, maybe it’s not such a bad idea….never mind. Considering the direction that this country has been going lately (you can’t fix stupid) Trump just might get elected.

Hi Ben. Thanks for the feedback! Let us know if there are any other topics you would like to read about! As for Obama, I think our country is ready for change and is open to the right person for the task of president. We just need to believe in someone that we can follow and support.
